The hearing instruments available today feature advanced digital technology. Hearing instruments use a microphone to pick up acoustical energy, sound waves, and convert that energy into a series of electrical impulses. An electronic circuit receives these electrical impulses and then converts them into a digital signal. The circuit uses sophisticated software to enhance the sound. The enhanced sound is then delivered to a receiver and sent through to the ear canal. The result is a louder, clearer sounding world. Advancements in technology and design have made hearing instruments not only sound better but look and feel better as well. Today, there are fewer stigmas associated with hearing instruments. The most sophisticated technology can be placed in an instrument that is comfortable and discrete. I didn't want to wear a hearing aid, because I was afraid it would make me look older. Now I don't even know it's there and neither does anyone else. In fact, I actually forget that I have them on. Now people notice me and not my hearing loss. My friends and family have really noticed an improvement. Now I feel like I'm included in conversations, and it's wonderful. Being a musician, I was looking for a hearing aid that could return to the sound of music as natural as it could possibly be. I missed that richness in my life, and these hearing aids have done that for me and changed the quality of my life immensely. It is so wonderful to be included in conversations now, to hear what my grandchildren are saying, to feel a part of everything that's going on in the room rather than being isolated. My advice to anyone who knows they have a hearing problem is to do something about it now. Don't put it off any longer than they have to, and bring back that richness and quality of life that your missing. And you'll thank yourself every day that you did it.
