Even if you have a Tuscan home or something really heavy and dark, you can make this work. Start with all white walls, not just white walls, but white ceilings and white trim or no trim at all. You can even get rid of the baseboards. This is a clean look, not a lot of fussiness. When selecting your furniture, go with clean, simple lines, nothing big and overly fussy. And the fabric should be lighter in tone or a gray, and it's really fun to contrast the textures. So if you have a really textural nubby sofa, maybe contrast it with a linen chair or a leather chair, maybe even something Velvet. Get rid of all the bright poppy accent pillows, and go with something more subdued. When it comes to your floors, go light, go bold, but not a lot of detail-- just a simple tile pattern or a nice wide plank, light, hardwood floor. You can also replace some of the heavy hoods above the stove tops with a natural beam. My husband I found this great beam sitting in a lumber yard. It will be around for ages. And we put it up above the stove, and I love how it looks. For accessories, truly, only bring things back into the house that you love. Natural is a really good way to go.
